The Basics of Shifting Stitches on your Knitting Loom: Lace, Yarn Overs and Cables - Live Zoom Class

 

The second of the Masterclass 2022 series is coming up on Saturday, May 7th, 2022. Please join me for the live, one hour presentation all about shifting stitches on your loom. I'll break down the fundamental structure of lace, explain shifts, the variety of yarn overs, and basics of shifting for cables. Included with your $10 registration is the live zoom class, class materials (a mini-handbook), class recording, and my Dandelion Shawlette pattern. The class is given in an accessible format, with captions for the zoom presentation, narrative slides, description and alt text for all images, and large print easy to read materials. 2022 Cindwood Zoomin' and Loomin' Masterclass Series Begins!

I am very happy to announce that this coming Saturday, April 2, 2022 will be the start of this year's Masterclass Series. 

The topics this year were chosen by my wonderful students from 2021. We had an end-of-year meet last November and came up with 5 great topics.

The class dates and topics are: 

April 2, 2022: Creating shapes on your loom with short row shaping; short rows, wraps, triangles, squares and circles. Class pattern: Leafing, a short row asymmetrical shawl with a short row lace flounce.

May 7, 2022: Basics of shifting stitches on your loom; loom knit lace, yarn overs, knit and purl togethers. Class pattern: Dandelion Shawlette, a wide crescent shaped shawlette with an open lace edging.

June 11, 2022: Special techniques for loom knitters; slipped stitches, lifted stitches and cables. Class will feature a number of stitch patterns for each technique.

September 10, 2022: Sequence knitting for loom knitters; a fun and easy technique to give you beautiful, reversible fabrics on your loom. Class pattern: Cake & Ice Cream Cowl; a cowl with an adjustable sequence to fit your peg count.

October 8, 2022: All about yarn for loom knitters; fibers, weight, texture and felting. Class pattern: Simple Felted Purses.

All classes will be presented live on Saturday at 9 am PST, 10 am MST, 11 am CST and 12 noon EST. Registration is $10.00. A recording will be made and sent to all registrants along with the class pattern and class materials (a mini-handbook on the class topic.) Register via Renee's etsy shop.

Classes are presented in accessible format for visually and hearing challenged loom knitters.

Indie Untangled, Rhinebeck, Accessibility and More!

 

Hello, and many apologies for not having a post in several months. I do have a lot to share today, so I'll try to make up for lost posts. In just a few weeks I will be giving a talk all about accessible resources for yarn crafters. I have been invited to be part of Indie Untangled at Rhinebeck, which has both in person and on-line activities. I will be live on-line Saturday, October 16, 2021, 3pm Eastern, 12 noon Pacific to talk all about accessibility and take questions, too. The tickets for Indie Untangled include all of the other wonderful presenters as well. I hope to see many of you at Indie Untangled!

October 23, 2021 will be the last of the 2021 Cindwood Zoomin' and Loomin' Masterclass series. 

The 10th class in this series is all about wonderful Brioche and Tuck stitches. This presentation focuses on introducing loom knitters to flat knit style Brioche and Tuck stitches (not to be confused with a different style of double knit colorwork, sometimes also called "brioche".) Due to the time constraints of a one hour class, we will not be looking at the more complex lace style Brioche in this first class. 

Brioche and Tuck stitches lend themselves very well to looms, and I am excited to share them with all of you. The class includes the live zoom presentation, class recording, class materials (a mini-handbook with all the class notes and stitch patterns) and a new pattern I am writing just for the class!

May Masterclass for Loom Knitters: Using Needle Knit Patterns on your Knitting Loom, Part One

 

This month's masterclass for loom knitters is a popular subject: Using Needle Knit Patterns on you Knitting Loom, Part One.

This will be a two part class, but each can be taken individually. Part one, on May 22, 2021 at 9 am PST, 12 pm EST, will cover the basics of evaluating a needle knit pattern for use on a knitting loom. The one hour live zoom class will include written class materials with everything covered in the class, a class recording, and my Triple Z pattern. Registration is $10 in my etsy store. 

Part two will be presented June 19, 2021, and will be a workshop on using needle patterns. This class will include the materials from class one, the class recording and my Teatime Washcloth pattern.

I hope you can join me for one or both of these classes! If you missed any of my earlier classes, you can still purchase the recordings and all the class materials in my etsy shop. 

New class, new patterns, new loom-a-long!

 

March will be a busy month, and I hope you can join me for the third of the CinDwood Zoomin' and Loomin' master classes. The subject this time is Swatching and Blocking. The $10 registration includes the live zoom class on March 13, 2021, a recording of the class, class written materials (a little how-to book for you to have on hand) and my Simple Lace Wrap pattern. I am delighted to announce my newest pattern collection is available. "More Kitty Mitts" is a three pattern collection based on the original "Kitten's Lost Mittens" collection, my most popular patterns. Last, but certainly not least, the March and April loom-a-long project in the Ravelry Loom-a-long group is my Winter Sky Love pattern from the Little Scarves, Too collection. This sweet scarf features a simple 4 row textured lace repeat (with the lace worked in only one of the four rows) and an optional beaded edge. Everyone is having a great time choosing beads and yarn for this one! I hope you are able to join us. 

And speaking of beading, the February class I taught on Beading for Loom Knitters is now available for purchase. You will get the class recording, class materials, and my Moondance pattern. A little extra bonus pattern is included, too. The class is available for purchase in my etsy shop for $10.00.

Class: Everything you need to know to read a pattern!

 

I'm happy to share that I'll be teaching another Zoomin' and Loomin' live class for CinDWood Looms on January 16, 2021. The topic this time is "Everything you need to know to read a pattern!". This will be a one hour live zoom presentation and includes a link to the class recording, pdf of class presentation materials, question and answer session, and a coupon for my patterns at CinDWood Looms.

Class times are: 9 am PST, 10 am Mountain, 11 am Central and 12 pm EST.

Looming around the 'Net

Fall finds us all busy once again with school, family, and of course, looming. It is time to begin working on our holiday gifts and decorations, and the loom community has stepped up in spectacular style.
Helen Jacobs-Grant My Heart Exposed has a beautiful new beret pattern "Best Friends for Life," inspired by her daughter's friends. I love the charming idea of "friendship hats."  The Loom Class at yahoogroups is working on an adorable little bluebird pattern taught by Kelly Knits. On the 17th, the class will work on converting a needle knit pattern for a very cute little apple decoration. Over on Ravelry, the Loom-a-long Group has been busy with a "work in progress" wrestling month. We are getting caught up on our unfinished projects, so we will be ready to tackle the year end loom-a-longs. I'm pretty excited about the year end loom-a-longs, because they are going to be three of my patterns. In October, we are working on "Josie's Sweater," a loom knit baby cardigan. 

In November and December, we'll be working on "Travel by Rail Cuffs," a great small holiday gift project, 

and in December and January, the loom-a-long will be "The Daisy Chain Sweater." 

Last but not least, I'm almost done with the next ebook, "The Shapely Loom." Publication is planned for the end of this month. The photo at the top of this post shows you a full circle pi-shawl made in lace weight yarn, one of the patterns from the book. More to come this month as I preview the patterns.

June Looming Around The Net

Lots of summer fun for loom knitters!  Tanya at Made by Telaine has shared three adorable baby hat patterns, including a pink "skull" hat. The yahoogroups Loom Class will be working on Kelly Knit's wonderful Spring Beach Market Bag, with Kelly Jones as the teacher. And the Ravelry Loom Knitters Group has started a Ravelympics Team
"Team Loominescent."  Ravelympics is a fun self-challenge that starts with a cast-on during Summer Olympic opening ceremonies, with the goal of casting-off during closing ceremonies. There are lots of "events," such as the hat dash, lace long jump, single skein sprint, baby dressage, and shawl sailing. Join the team, and celebrate the Summer Olympics 2012 with loom knitting!

On and Off the Loom

 Lots of different projects over the past month for my looms. The first photo shows a Wingspan made for the Loom Class group. (One more week, you can still join us.) This Wingspan was made on the new AKB all-in-one loom, from 1 skein of Mini Mochi fingering yarn in Neptune. Love the pegs on the loom, and the fabric, but the smaller gauge made a very small Wingspan. A better choice would be the Martha Stewart loom using small pegs, with a far greater number of pegs. The AKB will be a great loom for smaller projects, and I'm hoping they will add the option of additional side extension pieces to increase the number of pegs.

 The second photo shows a round baby blanket made for the Ravelry loom-a-long, going on through May. This was made from Cottontots yarn in Sweet Cream, with the crochet ruffle edging done in Dollhouse. I used the Provocraft ergonomic crochet hook for the edging, and found it a great improvement, even over my usual padded hooks.

The last photo shows some modular samples I am working on, possibly for a new collection of patterns. The little facecloths look like 4 mitered squares, but they are actually made all in a single piece, with no decreasing or increasing, no moving the loops. What's on your loom?

On to Wingspan

 April has flown by, and it is time for the Wingspan class to start at yahoogroups. It looks like a nice group, and I hope you will come join. 

 What have I been working on? Well, this is called "Mostly Harmless," named by PamsterG at Ravelry, who has also been testing the pattern for me. It is a great saw-tooth edged scarf, and a lot of fun to loom. 

The first photo shows "Mostly Harmless" in worsted weight, the second in fingering. Both were loomed on the 1/2 inch CinDwood loom, using about 64 pegs. The great thing about this pattern is that it will adapt to any gauge loom, and any weight yarn. For the worsted weight, I used Crazy Zauberball in Rich Jewels held with a strand of Knit Picks' Pallette in Cream. For the fingering, I used Knit Picks' Chroma Fingering in Guppy.

April Looming Around the Net

So many cute loom-a-longs this month. The loom class group at yahoogroups has a "Dinosaur vs. Bedtime" toy that is simply adorable. The class is taught by Vanessa Soto from 4/9- 4/28. 

Following the dinosaur class, I'll be hosting "Wingspan for Loom Knitters." I hope you will all join me for this very enjoyable pattern.
The Ravelry loom-a-long group has a lovely baby blanket pattern to work on all of April and May, and a very cute bunny and kitty for the rest of April, to go along with the blanket.

March Looming

March is going to be a busy month of looming for me. I have 4 designs completed for the new e-book project, and 2 left to work on. In the photo above is "Venetian Lace", an over sized asymmetrical scarf or wrap. Not a very glamorous photo, as it is being blocked, but it gives you an idea of how this lovely scarf  looks.
Around the net, there are several classes and loom-a-longs that have wonderful patterns this month.

The Ravelry Loom-a-long group is working on my "Sweet on Ruffles" pattern, pictured in the second photo. The "Peaceful Days Shawl" is  being loomed as well. The loom-a-long continues through March, so please come and join in. If you want to make some toys, the Loom-a-long group is also working on a sweet kitten and bunny during March and April.
The Yahoo Loom Class group has toys for March. Cute "Mr. Egg"  taught by Graciela Worth the first two weeks, and Bethany Dailey's adorable "Mr. Wobbles" the penguin the last two weeks of the month.

Looming for the New Year

 I'm not sure how it happened, but my looms are full, so first on my to-do list will be to finish these projects. The first photo shows a shawl made from Beaverslide wool in a fingering weight. It is a rustic feeling and looking shawl, with a purl eyelet detail. It is off the loom and blocking, so almost done.

 The second shawl is a little change for me, made from Jojoland Rhythm worsted weight yarn. I'm on the third skein, and still enjoying new color combinations. The shawl itself is a loose variation of textural stitches, including the wave stitch and linen stitch. I'm about 1/3  of the way through this project.

This third photo shows a needle design I converted for the loom so I could be part of a knit-a-long in the Small Shawls Group in Ravelry. I'm using a 90 peg 1/2 inch gauge loom with a pretty variegated fingering yarn from Shibui.
There are also some great January group knits happening. The Loom-a-long group at Ravelry is working on the "Bee Bopper Bag", a cute tote bag. The Loom Class at yahoo groups is making a darling sweater for an 18 inch doll. And the Markman Looms group at yahoo groups has its annual beginning loomers course, a great class for learning stitches and reviewing basics.
