The second of the Masterclass 2022 series is coming up on Saturday, May 7th, 2022. Please join me for the live, one hour presentation all about shifting stitches on your loom. I'll break down the fundamental structure of lace, explain shifts, the variety of yarn overs, and basics of shifting for cables. Included with your $10 registration is the live zoom class, class materials (a mini-handbook), class recording, and my Dandelion Shawlette pattern. The class is given in an accessible format, with captions for the zoom presentation, narrative slides, description and alt text for all images, and large print easy to read materials. 2022 Cindwood Zoomin' and Loomin' Masterclass Series Begins!

I am very happy to announce that this coming Saturday, April 2, 2022 will be the start of this year's Masterclass Series. 

The topics this year were chosen by my wonderful students from 2021. We had an end-of-year meet last November and came up with 5 great topics.

The class dates and topics are: 

April 2, 2022: Creating shapes on your loom with short row shaping; short rows, wraps, triangles, squares and circles. Class pattern: Leafing, a short row asymmetrical shawl with a short row lace flounce.

May 7, 2022: Basics of shifting stitches on your loom; loom knit lace, yarn overs, knit and purl togethers. Class pattern: Dandelion Shawlette, a wide crescent shaped shawlette with an open lace edging.

June 11, 2022: Special techniques for loom knitters; slipped stitches, lifted stitches and cables. Class will feature a number of stitch patterns for each technique.

September 10, 2022: Sequence knitting for loom knitters; a fun and easy technique to give you beautiful, reversible fabrics on your loom. Class pattern: Cake & Ice Cream Cowl; a cowl with an adjustable sequence to fit your peg count.

October 8, 2022: All about yarn for loom knitters; fibers, weight, texture and felting. Class pattern: Simple Felted Purses.

All classes will be presented live on Saturday at 9 am PST, 10 am MST, 11 am CST and 12 noon EST. Registration is $10.00. A recording will be made and sent to all registrants along with the class pattern and class materials (a mini-handbook on the class topic.) Register via Renee's etsy shop.

Classes are presented in accessible format for visually and hearing challenged loom knitters.

Indie Untangled, Rhinebeck, Accessibility and More!

 

Hello, and many apologies for not having a post in several months. I do have a lot to share today, so I'll try to make up for lost posts. In just a few weeks I will be giving a talk all about accessible resources for yarn crafters. I have been invited to be part of Indie Untangled at Rhinebeck, which has both in person and on-line activities. I will be live on-line Saturday, October 16, 2021, 3pm Eastern, 12 noon Pacific to talk all about accessibility and take questions, too. The tickets for Indie Untangled include all of the other wonderful presenters as well. I hope to see many of you at Indie Untangled!

October 23, 2021 will be the last of the 2021 Cindwood Zoomin' and Loomin' Masterclass series. 

The 10th class in this series is all about wonderful Brioche and Tuck stitches. This presentation focuses on introducing loom knitters to flat knit style Brioche and Tuck stitches (not to be confused with a different style of double knit colorwork, sometimes also called "brioche".) Due to the time constraints of a one hour class, we will not be looking at the more complex lace style Brioche in this first class. 

Brioche and Tuck stitches lend themselves very well to looms, and I am excited to share them with all of you. The class includes the live zoom presentation, class recording, class materials (a mini-handbook with all the class notes and stitch patterns) and a new pattern I am writing just for the class!

Mosaic Colorwork for Loom Knitters Class

 

My April Masterclass for the Cindwood Looms Zoomin' and Loomin' monthly series is all about Mosaic Colorwork for loom knitters. This is a great topic, and I hope you will be able to join me for an hour on Saturday, April 24th. If you are unable to come to the live zoom class, you can still register and get the class recording, materials and my Honeybear Cowl pattern.

The May and June classes are also open for registration: Using Needle Patterns on your Loom!  In the first part, I present the basics for evaluating a needle knit pattern to see if it will transfer well to a knitting loom, and then explain how to make that transfer. The extensive class written materials (a "booklet" of how-to for later reference) are included with this workshop, along with a class recording and my Teatime Washcloth pattern. (Another pattern may be substituted if you already have this one.)

In the second part, we will workshop our attempts to transfer patterns, and in particular look at the two patterns that come with the classes. The Triple Z is a transfer from a needle pattern, and the Teatime Washcloth uses knits, purls and nupps - a classic pattern to transfer from needles. In addition, if you have a pattern you've been puzzling over, you can send me a few lines ahead of time, and I’ll be happy to evaluate it for you as part of the workshop.

 

A Mystery Loom-a-long

Jack Be Nimble Baby Blanket

Jack Be Nimble Baby Blanket

 “Jack be nimble, Jack be quick”, this blanket lives up to its name sake by being quick and simple to make. The textured stitch pattern of knit and purl stitches creates a beautiful fabric that any baby will love to be wrapped in. The pattern is easily adjusted to a larger size. This is a good beginner pattern, but has plenty of interest for a more advanced loom knitter.

 Loom: 5/8 inch gauge loom with 74 pegs flat knit (1/2 inch loom may be substituted) 

Yarn: 560 yards of bulky weight washable yarn divided as follows: 
Color 1 – 420 yards (sample used Knit Pick’s Billow in Whisker) 
Color 2 – 90 yards (sample used Knit Pick’s Billow in Spearmint) 
Color 3 – 45 yards (sample used Knit Pick’s Billow in Cadet

The wrap is worked in three colors. It is an elegant but simple wrap that buttons up into at least a dozen shapes. If you can knit and purl, you can make this lovely wrap. New patterns - Winter Washcloths 2

Winter Washcloths 2: Four winter themed washcloth patterns written for three loom gauges: 1/4 inch fine, 3/8 inch fine, and 3/8 inch small. The patterns use 33 or 34 pegs flat knit. All gauges use worsted weight cotton yarn. A soft cotton like Comfy works very nicely for the patterns. Standard kitchen cotton may also be used.

Loom Knit Shawls III: Romance

Loom Knit Shawls III: Romance e-book

I love them. I love to knit them, I love to give them as gifts, I love to wear them, but most of all, I love to design them. The shawls in this collection have a romantic feel to them – a little lace here, a soft ruffle there, a new shape, a different texture. I’ve added some different lace styles to give you a feeling of Shetland, Estonian and other traditional lace styles. The pattern names are a tribute to Georgette Heyer, an author to whose romantic comedies I have spent many enjoyable hours listening while loom knitting.

April Lady

This sweet little shawl has a rather unique “square back” shape. The neckline curves nicely to hug your shoulders and stay in place. The pattern is written for 64 pegs, but you may make this any size you like. The photo shows the shawl made on a 3/8 inch gauge loom, but larger gauges may be used. The shape is particularly well suited for graduate dyed yarns that are done with matching ends – where the color repeats are 1 2 3 4 3 2 1. You may see these skeins sold for making matching pairs of socks, sometimes as two skeins, or one large skein. There is an option for adding beads to the center lace column.

Bath Cotillion

The edges of Bath Cotillion treat you two different types of lace work side by side. Together they make a striking complement to a simple garter stitch shawl.

Bath Cotillion is particularly nice when two yarns are combined – one in a solid neutral color, and one in a variegated pattern. The neutral yarn helps tone down the variegated pattern, making a softer combination perfect for a romantic shawl. Bath Cotillion is made on a 3/8 inch gauge loom with 78 pegs, but a 1/2 inch gauge may be substituted.

 Cousin Kate

Cousin Kate is fun little shawlette with a bit of a difference. The shaping is not the usual triangle, but a square backed shawl that hugs your shoulders, framed by a soft, romantic ruffle. Want a larger shawl? No trouble, just add yarn. Want a wider shawl? Just add rows where the pattern tells you. Have a gradient dyed yarn? This is the perfect pattern. Try a larger gauge loom, a heavier weight yarn – Cousin Kate will love it all. The photos show the pattern made on a 1/2 inch gauge loom with 45 pegs.

Leonie Shawl

This sweet crescent shawl has a border of pretty lace medallions. The crescent shape dips low on the back with a gently rounded center.  I've written the lace steps by step, line by line. Leonie is made on a 1/2 inch gauge loom using 55 pegs.

Miss Trent

This elegant wrap takes its influence from Shetland Lace designs. One of the joys of this type of lace is that you may make the pattern in yarns from lace weight to worsted. Traditional Shetland Lace is made with the lightest possible yarn. The pattern uses a 3/8 inch gauge loom with 62 pegs, but you may increase to a 1/2 inch gauge for a lighter, more traditional Shetland shawl.

Venetia

This large circular cape features a wide collar and beautiful panel inset in the back. The shape combines the best of a half-pi shawl with Faroese shaping. While Venetia is beautiful when made in two colors, it is also easily made in just one. Venetia is made on a 1/2 inch gauge loom using 74 pegs.
